If a Fire Door does not close properly it cannot contain a fire. All too often we see Fire Extinguishers or wooden wedges being used to prop open doors in busy environments. It is doubtful that these are ever removed so a fire in those buildings will spread quickly causing damage and risk of lives. We can advise suitable, practical ways to manage keeping doors held open safely without the risk of allowing fire to spread if the alarm is raised.

Gaps between the door and frame are critical to allowing the intumescent strips to perform properly in the event of a fire. Damaged intumescent strips will need to be replaced. Door Closers are necessary on fire doors to make sure the door sits flush in the frame. Hinges (a minimum of 3 per door) need to be of a sufficient grade for the weight of a fire door. All hardware on a fire door needs to have all the fixing screws in place. There should not be any signs or posters covering vision panels on fire doors. When a fire door latches closed there should not be any significant play in the door.
